Fence Replacement in North Texas
If your fence is aging, leaning, storm-damaged, or simply past its prime, replacement is often cleaner than patching. Here’s how TrueSet scopes and runs a replacement project.
When replacement makes sense
Common Reasons Homeowners Replace a Fence
Age & weather. Wood fencing has a finite life. Years of North Texas sun, rain, and soil moisture eventually take their toll on pickets, rails, and posts.
Leaning sections. Sections that lean or pull away from the posts usually point to posts that have loosened or failed at or below ground level.
Rot & deterioration. Rotting pickets, rails, or post bases compromise the structure. Once deterioration is widespread, spot repairs stop making sense.
Storm damage. High winds and severe weather can take down entire runs. We’ll assess what can be repaired versus what needs full replacement.
Failed posts. Posts are the backbone of a fence. When they’re loose, broken, or rotted at the ground line, the fence above them won’t stay plumb.
Neighborhood / HOA updates. When a neighborhood or HOA updates its standards, a full replacement may be the cleanest path to compliance and a consistent look.
How we scope it
What a TrueSet Replacement Includes
We scope the whole project before the crew arrives — tear-out, haul-off, posts, gates, and the new fence — so there are no surprises once work starts.
Tear-Out
Removal of the existing fence — pickets, rails, and hardware — staged for haul-off.
Haul-Away & Cleanup
Demolition debris is hauled off and disposed of. Every new installation is also initially priced with cleanup and haul-off of debris from the new work.
Evaluating Existing Posts
We evaluate existing posts on site. Some may be reusable; many aren’t. We won’t promise posts can always be reused — the condition at and below ground line decides.
Gates
Gates are replaced or upgraded as part of the scope, with hardware and bracing chosen to keep working.
Posts, lines & rules
Posts, Property Lines & HOA Requirements
When posts may need replacement
Posts are evaluated on site for soundness at and below the ground line. We won’t promise existing posts can always be reused — loose, leaning, or rotted posts are replaced so the new fence stays plumb. The decision is based on actual condition, not on saving a few dollars up front.
Shared & neighbor fence lines
Shared lines and neighbor fences come with their own considerations. We don’t verify property boundaries ourselves — if there’s any question about where the line sits, a survey or other appropriate documentation should settle it before installation.
Property-line considerations
Fence placement relative to the property line matters for both neighbors and the city. We’ll confirm what applies to your project, but TrueSet does not verify property boundaries unless a survey or appropriate documentation exists.
HOA requirements
In most cases, TrueSet is able to handle the permit and HOA approval process for you. Requirements vary by city and neighborhood, so we’ll confirm what applies — including any required documents or fees — before installation.
Repair or replace?
Fence Repair vs. Complete Replacement
A single damaged gate or one loose post may be a repair. Widespread rot, multiple failed posts, or long runs of leaning fence usually point to replacement. We’ll give you an honest read on which makes sense for your fence — not just the more expensive option.
When replacement is the right call, see our wood privacy fence installation page for material and style options, and our fence staining page for protecting the new wood. Not sure whether to repair or replace your fence? Read our repair vs. replacement guide.
What affects replacement cost
Pricing & What to Expect During Installation
What affects replacement cost
Replacement price is driven by fence length, height, material, style, the number and type of gates, the extent of tear-out and haul-off, how many posts need replacement, ground conditions, and access. We don’t publish fake per-linear-foot prices — your tailored quote reflects your actual scope.
During installation
You usually don’t need to be home. As long as we have the access, approvals, and project details we need beforehand, you can get on with your day. We’ll keep you updated as the work progresses and finish with a walkthrough.
Estimate
Start with a ballpark, then we confirm the full replacement scope.
Tear-Out & Install
Old fence comes down, debris is hauled off, and the new fence goes up to standard.
Cleanup & Walkthrough
We finish with cleanup and a final walkthrough — not just a bill.

Fence Replacement Questions
Does my damaged fence need repair or full replacement?
That depends on the extent of the damage and the condition of the posts, rails, pickets, and gates. A limited problem may be repairable; widespread deterioration can make replacement more practical. A site assessment is needed to decide.
Can TrueSet reuse the existing fence posts?
Existing posts need to be evaluated before reuse is included in the scope. Their condition, alignment, and suitability for the replacement fence matter. Reuse should not be assumed simply because a post is still standing.
Who handles demolition and hauling away the old fence?
TrueSet can include both in the replacement proposal. The estimator treats demolition and haul-off as separate selections, so confirm which work TrueSet will handle and which work you intend to handle yourself.
What should I provide for a replacement estimate?
Share approximate footage, height and material preferences, gate needs, access limitations, and photos of damaged sections or posts. Note whether you are replacing the whole fence or only selected runs.
Does replacing a fence avoid the need for a permit?
Not necessarily. City requirements depend on the property and the proposed work. Changing a fence’s layout, height, or material may affect approvals, and HOA requirements can apply separately. Check the rules before removal or installation.
